THE PENTHOUSE PLAYERS CLUB
The Penthouse Players Club (PPC) is a DMV hip-hop showcase featuring the areas best rappers
performing on a stage filled with exotic dancers. The PPC is presented by Dre "All Day In The Paint,"
and the show takes place each and every Wednesday night at "The House" (3530 Georgia Ave., NW - formerly known as
"The Penthouse"). Last Wednesday Gerreddi, Likeblood, Cool Minds, and Da Phuture blazed the mic.
This week the special guest host will be Ms. Kitten. For any artists looking for exposure this event is covered by numerous
local websites/blogs, and is filmed by 3 different camera crews (including Stamp TV and MoviehoodTV).
MR. CHEEKS AT THE ISLAND CAFE
Mr. Cheeks, of the Grammy Award winning rap group the Lost Boyz, dropped in on the Underground Warz
show last Thursday at the Island Cafe (829 Upshur Street, NW). Mr. Cheeks gave the packed house at the Island Cafe
everything they wanted - he performed classic Lost Boyz tracks as well as selections from his brand new CD.
Before Cheeks grabbed the mic, several local artists (20 Bello, Lady Sphinx, Yagerbomb) also gave inspired performances. The
Underground Warz is a weekly event the goes down every Thursday and is hosted by 20 Bello and Bishop Twan.
FAYCEZ U KNOW - NAPTOWN LIVE
The Faycez U Know Music Group have perfected
the art of "Grown and Sexy" Go-Go. They are regulars at the "Naptown Live" concert series at
The Whisky (1803 West Street, Annapolis, MD). Faycez is fronted by the talented and lovely vocalist Miss Halima. Last
Wednesday they played to a packed house and kept everyone "in the pocket" all night long.
MS. YENDY & THE AFFILIATED PROJECT
Ms. Yendy and the Affiliated Project perform
every Friday at the Stonefish Grill (The Blvd. at the Capital Center). If you are not familiar with Ms. Yendy she is an outstanding
vocalist who previously was the lead singer for the band Mambo Sauce. Every week Ed Lyfe will be in attendance accepting donations
for his 1Lyfe (suicide prevention) organization.
THE "IT'S ALL LOVE" COOKOUT
Dre "All Day In The Paint" hosted his 16th annual "It's All Love" Cookout (The DMV's
longest running cookout) at Fort Washington Park. Like most of Dre's events, everything was first-class, and a lot
of DMV superstars were in attendance to enjoy the free food (including Alaska King Crab legs). The cookout offered something
for everyone - whether you were there to socialize or politic. For more information about Dre's upcoming events
(like the Dipset show at Club 24 on July 31st) go to: www.dmvtmz.com.
THE
SOUTHEAST SLIM COOKOUT
Last weekend was Southeast Slim's annual cookout held at Fort Lincoln Park. The event was sponsored
by Hitter Quitter Records and Fifth Elements Productions. The cookout had plenty of eye candy, nice weather, free food and
drinks, oh yeah - did I mention eye candy? Southeast Slim is one of the best and most prolific rappers in the DMV. Slim
is also a beast behind the boards - he has produced numerous hit records for Wale (and other local artists). Be on the
lookout for Southeast Slim's upcoming new album entitled Southeast Central. For more information go to: www.hitterquitter.net; or www.southeastcentral.com
THE OY BOYZ &
UCB IN OCEAN CITY
The DMV invaded Ocean City with full force. The Go-Go band UCB, fresh off of their
MTV Awards appearance, and rap heavyweights the Oy Boyz, performed live at Castaways (64th Street on the Bay). UCB started
the night off playing before a packed house (big ups to everyone that came down from DC, and also to the folks from UM
Eastern Shore). After the first set the Oy Boyz hit the stage to perform several hits from their new CD. Then UCB
returned accompanied by the incredible vocals of Ms. Kim (from Rare Essence). Their version of "Run This Town" was
crazy, then they shut it down with the classics "Pieces of Me" and "Sexy Lady". It was a totally drama-free
night - shouts out to Envious Couture and Suni for putting together a great event.
THE BIG B ALBUM RELEASE COOKOUT
Big B and Den Den (The Boss) had a celebration to announce Big B's latest album The Southside
of Maryland. The event featured a car wash and free food. The entertainment was provided by Relentlezz Dre, several artists
from the BBU family, and of course Big B himself. The new album is available for download on iTunes, Amazon.com, and Napster.
